PREAMBLE

The School of the Built-Environment is the sole provider of programmes in Engineering and the Built-Environment at both diploma and degree levels in the country. The school emphasizes nurturing and cultivation of positive attitude towards high productivity and social responsibility. It attracts high quality students and staff and offers foundation programmes to facilitate inclusiveness. The school maintains close links with industry which supports teaching and learning in all its programmes. Additionally, the school prides itself in the hands-on practical skills of the graduands acquired through Workshop Practice and Work Integrated Learning incorporated in all programmes. Furthermore, the multifaceted nature of the school encourages interaction across all disciplines in both teaching and research activities

1. Diploma in Civil Engineering

COSC / LGCSE and equivalent with: 

  • Grade (C) or better in Mathematics (Extended)
  •  Grade (C) or better in Physical Science  
  • Grade (D) or better in English Language

Plus

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at LGCSE, COSC or equivalent.

2. Diploma in Construction Management

LCOSC / LGCSE and equivalent with: 

  • Grade (C) or better in Mathematics and Physical Science  
  •  Grade (D) or better in English Language
  • Grade (E) or better in any three (3) subjects

PLUS

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at LGCSE, COSC or equivalent. Indirect entry and/or RPL

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Must have a Building Trade Certificate in Bricklaying & Plastering or Carpentry & Joinery or Electrical Installation or Plumbing & Sheetmetal Work or equivalent qualification PLUS LGCSE/COSC with Grade (E) or better in Mathematics, Grade (E) or better in Physical Science and Grade (E) or better in English Language.

OR

Minimum Trade Test B in Bricklaying & Plastering or Carpentry & Joinery or Electrical Installation or Plumbing & Sheetmetal Work or equivalent qualification

PLUS LGCSE & or equivalent COSC with Grade (E) or better in Mathematics, Grade (E) or better in Physical Science and Grade (E) or better in English Language.

OR

Minimum Trade Test B in Bricklaying & Plastering or Carpentry & Joinery or Electrical Installation or Plumbing & Sheetmetal Work or equivalent qualification

PLUS LGCSE & or equivalent COSC with Grade (E) or better in Mathematics, Grade

The applicants who are thirty (30) years and older with five (5) years working experience in construction industry and passed LGCSE & COSC or equivalent with Grade (E) or better in Mathematics, Grade (E) or better in Physical Science and Grade

(E) or better in English Language PLUS Applicants should submit portfolio, reference and will be interviewed by LP.

Creative Portfolio

Candidates who meet the minimum academic requirements for admission will be required to submit a Creative Portfolio prior to the interview. The portfolio should demonstrate creativity, basic design ability, and visual thinking, and must consist entirely of the applicant’s original work. The portfolio shall include the following:

  • Write-up
  • Drawings
  • Creative Ability

Interview
The prospective student must book an interview date from the available dates which can be found in the admission letter. Students who meet the minimum requirements during the portfolio submission stage of the application process will be invited to the interview stage.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

1. Candidates who hold Diploma in Architectural Technology or any corresponding qualification will be enrolled into third year of this programme. In addition, holders of LP’s Architectural Technology Diploma who are admitted into the bachelor programme will be awarded credits from some of the previous modules. Corresponding diplomas acquired from other institutions will be subjected to evaluation by Departmental Selection Committee.

PLUS

Candidates shall submit portfolio of relevant work experience with their application which will be evaluated as per requirements prescribed by the Department.

2. Candidates who have partially completed a corresponding qualification at another institution may be considered for admission, subject to compliance with Lerotholi Polytechnic’s admission requirements. A detailed evaluation of curriculum content and credit accumulation for each completed module will be conducted. In addition to meeting LP’s admission criteria, applicants are required to submit a portfolio of work from their previous studies as part of the application package. The portfolio will be assessed by the Department, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the Selection Committee, which will include a formal portfolio review. Candidates must have attained a minimum overall average of 50%.

The outcome of the selection process is final, and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.
